There has got to be a way of justing switching it back to ntfs as all the files are there in directories but it is just this RAW problem. I want to recover everything exceot the deleted files! One solution I read was to use a program called "recuva" but that only shows deleted files on the drive that are in the recycle bin. I am on a different PC at the moment so cant run computer management as I dont have admin rights but I am sure it comes up with a letter when the drive is plugged in. Maybe I will have to if nothing else works. The seagate recovery program shows all the files are there waiting to be recovered if I want to pay $122, which I don',t at this stage. I tested the drive using the seagate tools and everything is fine withe drive. Well, there are quite a lot of threads on RAW data recovery in the forum.Īfter that, it may be a good idea to test the drive in order to see if it is in a healthy state: Surely there must be a software tool that can switch it back to ntfs, after all the seagate program sees the files so why wont windows? The case looks like it would break if I tried to remove it. It has a special cable so you cant use another one, but I dont think the cable is the issue. I have read other threadsbut none that I have seen seem to adequately solve the problem. Additionally, you download and run the SeaTools diagnostic test. this is a valid reason to consider a replacement. Seagate Support Home - Find important support related documentation. The recovery program is $122 and another drive to copy it to will probably be about $70 so I am looking for a cheaper option. So i ran the seagate data recovery program on the same windows PC and it showed all the files are there. If you select error checking under tools it says the disk check could not be performed because windows cant access the disk. If you right click on the drive letter and select properties it shows as 0 bytes. I then plugged it back into my PC and it was not recognised. I plugged it into my LGTV but it did not work. This is the Windows native solution for booting a 3TB drive to a single partition.I have a seagate backup plus slim 2Tb external 2.5" drive. Windows 10/ 8 / 7 and Vista 64-bit operating systems support booting from UEFI and GPT without the need of a non-Microsoft device driver. UEFI BIOS desktop systems are new since 2011. Windows can only boot a GPT partition on a new type of BIOS called UEFI. You can use GPT today on any Windows 10 / 8 / 7 and Vista system as a non-booting data drive. GUID Partition Tables (GPT) can define drives larger than 2.2TB. The device driver mounts the capacity above 2.2TB with another MBR which looks to the system as a second virtual “physical” device. Two partitions will be necessary because of the MBR limitation. A 3TB disk drive in a legacy BIOS and Window system will need a DiscWizard device driver to access the full capacity of a 3TB disk drive. Windows operating systems that boot from an MBR are therefore limited to 2.2TB per MBR. first try a different system USB port, a different USB cable, and a different power cable. usually it is the control interface that converts the actual drive from SATA to USB. The MBR Partitions can define a disk drive capacity up to 2.2TB. JohnBonhamsGhost said: a lot of people have issues with external drive's housing just stopping to work eventually. This type of BIOS uses a Master Boot Record (MBR). Most legacy systems built before 2011 have a traditional PC BIOS.
